reinsrc.cal

Hi all,

I am trying to use the following command to create direct sun coefficient
matrix, but I get this error : "reinsrc.cal: cannot open"

$ cnt 5185 | rcalc -e MF:6 -f reinsrc.cal -e Rbin=recno \

-o 'solar source sun 0 0 4 ${ Dx } ${ Dy } ${ Dz } 0.533' >> skies/suns.rad

I copied reinsrc.cal from ray/src/cal/cal to ray/lib, but I still get the
error.
Can you please guide me on how to fix this.

Leyla

Have you tried the full path to the cal file?

Unlike other Radiance tools rcalc doesn't search RAYPATH. Greg explained
that rcalc is meant to be a general utility not a Radiance program (the 'r'
in rcalc stands for record not Radiance). So either reinsrc.cal has to be
in the current directory or you have to provide the full path to
reinsrc.cal.

Andy,

Thank you for clarifying this. I was wondering why rcalc doesn't find
reinsrc.cal
like other Radiance programs.
Thanks to Greg's 5-phase method, I am learning a lot about Radiance.

Hi all,
I am following @sarith 's Radiance DDS tutorial.
on one of the steps, when I want to create solar discs and corresponding modifiers for 5165 suns corresponding to a Reinhart MF:6 subdivision, using this command:
cnt 5165 | rcalc -e MF:6 -f reinsrc.cal -e Rbin=recno -o "solar source sun 0 0 4 ${Dx} ${Dy} ${Dz} 0.533" >> skies/suns.rad .
and I see this following error:

solar source sun 0 0 4 0.533: cannot open

searching the forum, I found the issue mentioned in this topic, which is solved by setting the complete path of the reinsrc.cal, but this did not resolve my error.

Are there other potential sources for this?

Nima

Looks like you need to replace your double-quotes with single-quotes, because you are operating under Unix or a Unix-like shell environment. Try:

cnt 5165 | rcalc -e MF:6 -f reinsrc.cal -e Rbin=recno -o 'solar
source sun 0 0 4 ${Dx} ${Dy} ${Dz} 0.533' >> skies/suns.rad

Many of the commands in Sarithโ€™s tutorial are designed for Windows and also work under Unix. He usually points out when you need to vary syntax between the two, but maybe he missed this command?

Cheers,
-Greg

I tried your suggestion and it works without a problem now.
Thanks
