Hi everyone,
Does anyone have some troubles with Ecotect 2011 and Radiance for dayllight Factor Calculation?
When i compare the dyalight factor using Ecotect v5 with radiance or Ecotect 2011 with Radiance as well, the results are completly different. Even when i'm only using Ecotect to calculate the Daylight Factor.
Regards,
Alexis

Vidya.
You can download the "Radiance Tutorial" by Axel Jacobs here:
http://luminance.londonmet.ac.uk/learnix/docs.shtml
There are also a few other documents but the tutorial is a very
good start especially with regard to the command line.

Dear Alexis,
Yes, the results are different and Diego and I would argue that
Ecotect-Split-Flux is wrong
(http://www.gsd.harvard.edu/research/gsdsquare/Publications/BuildingSimu
lation2009.SimulationNovices.pdf).

Hi Alexis,
Ecotect uses an entirely different method for calculating daylight factors than Radiance. If I recall correctly, it uses a split flux method with relatively coarse sampling. So at best this might be useful for a very very simple room (and perhaps even then for an initial approximation). Radiance on the other hand uses much more sophisticated methods and is capable of dealing with very complicated geometry. Christoph Reinhart at Harvard has done some work on this.
