Infor Radiance

Hi,

I'm Valeria,I'm an italian student. I'm using Radiance (with Ecotect software) for the frist time for my thesis and I've very short time to resolve my problem because I did, during last months, experimental texts but now I need to compare theese tests with the software in 3 weeks maximum . I'm studying different types of light shelves but when I do the simulations on Radiance I can't see the reflection of the rays (of the sun) on surface and on walls too. I'm using "mirror" like material of the light shelf. I tried all things that I could find on internet and on forum too, but nothing! I'm really in trouble. Please help me ! Thanks

Hi Valeria,

How are you assigning material in radiance through Ecotect? I hope you have
checked the rad file to ensure that the mirror properties are assigned to
the light shelf. It would be good if you can share the model or the rad
file so that I can try to debug the issue.

Regards

I'm attaching both Radiance files. The image RCP_c1.jpg is my case study. This room reproduces the 1: 5 scale model of the real room that I'm studying. The jpg Esempio is what I need to see on my render.

Hi Valeria -

From your rad file, the material "Mirror" is actually defined as a plastic within Radiance. You will need to use sometime like this in place of that material definition (as defined in http://radsite.lbl.gov/radiance/refer/usman2.pdf\):

Void mirror Mirror
0
0
3 .992 .992 .992
One thing to note, you will need to be sure that the surface normal for the mirror is facing the right direction in your scene (up assuming it is the top of the light shelf). The reflection should then render assuming the sun arrives on the surface.

Also, make sure you render with -dr 1 or greater. I think the default in rvu is -dr 0, which turns off virtual sources.

Hi

You may find some useful explanations in my rather old tutorial document available on:
http://radsite.lbl.gov/radiance/refer/rc97tut.zip

Pages 25 and 26 may be the more relevant for your case.

Hi,

While exporting from Ecotect it is taking Ecotect materials and exporting
them as plastic with the color properties specified in Ecotect. There is a
way to use RADIANCE materials from within ECOTECT. Please see the below
link for short tutorial on how to achieve the same.
