Flare&ghost removal

Hi, i am doing a project on flare&ghost removal in HDR Images, and would need some different algorithms for comparison. So if you have any good links/own algorithms you could share with me, i would be extremely grateful.

Thanks,

JK

Hi JK,

I'm not free to share source code, but you are welcome to download the application, Photosphere (for Mac OS X) and/or hdrgen (for OS X and Linux) from <www.anyhere.com>. Both programs will do ghost and flare removal, as well as automatic exposure registration/alignment.

Hi JK,

My student Erum Khan has worked on an alternative
approach for ghost removal. Paper is online at:

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Erik

Looks like someone discovered robust estimators.
Check out the existing literature on robust estimators -- I think there are better ones available.

Hello Greg

Based on your experience on ghost removal methods, which do
think are good implementations?

Tom

Hi Thomas,

What other methods are there besides the one in Photosphere? I'm not up on other people's software, but I hadn't heard of other commercial or free packages that did this. Do you have some results to point us to? Or are you talking about exposure alignment methods?

Just curious.

There is a manual approach in FDR Tools, as seen in the third tutorial movie on this site:
http://fdrtools.com/tutorials/tutorials_e.php

In my opinion quite tedious, and wasteful with the unmoving image parts.

best regards,

I was actually refering to papers, sorry for the lack of clarity. I have
used FDRTools (as Blochi pointed out is a bit over kill when no moving
objects are not present) when needed, as well as other apps like HDRShop and
CS2.

Tom.
