Five-Phase Method: invalid results in daylight matrix

Hi Rob,

Thank you for your response.
I have checked the orientation of the daylight polygons (exterior window
pane) and it matches the given view direction as 0 -1 0. I changed the view
direction to 0 1 0 just to see if the results would be any different. But I
receive the same daylight matrix file with all values equal to 0.

Would it be convenient for you if I sent you a Google drive link to my
project folder with all the files that you need to run the genklemsamp
command and reproduce the error?
I had also sent a separate post with regards to variations in the commands
for generating all-black models in the next steps of the tutorial.

Thank you,
Alireza

At first (quick) glance, my guess is that your window polygon is oriented

Hello,

I have a question about the Example 2 in the five-phase method tutorial (
http://www.radiance-online.org/learning/tutorials/fivephasetutorialfiles/Tutorial-FivePhaseMethod_v2.pdf
):

OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)
Command Line Environment: Git Bash

Command:

$ genklemsamp -c 1000 -vd 0 -1 0 objects/glazing_outside_pane.rad | \
rcontrib -c 1000 -ab 2 -ad 1024 -e MF:1 -f reinhart.cal -b rbin -bn Nrbins
-m sky_glow -fa \
model_daylight_matrix.oct > daylight_matrices/daylight_matrix.dmx

Issue: the recorded values in the generated daylight_matirx.dmx are all
equal to 0 (0.000000e+000)

I would appreciate if you could help me with possible causes of the
invalid results.

Thank you,
Alireza

Hi Alireza,

We saw an issue in another model where the windows were very small relative to the wall area, such that genklemsamp was missing them in its initial sampling. The solution is to increase the -c setting (try a factor of 10 more) or using the equivalent rfluxmtx command, which uses a more robust sampling method.

Worth a try....
