converting unfinished renderings

Hi All,
I have acces to a rendering computer via putty - no X11, so I can not see the status of renderings using ximage. When I try to convert the rendering I get the obvious "errror reading Radiance picture" error. Does anybody has a workaround for this situation? In other words, is there any way to convert an unfinished rendering?
-Iebele

I've found that "ra_ppm file.pic > file.pnm" gives me an image with black in the unfinished portions. Trying to add pnmtopng as a pipe just returns a 0-length file, but using a two-step method with ppm as an intermediary works.

I believe pfilt can also take in a partial image.

Hi Mark, Christopher,

Using pfilt and adding ximage to the pipe works fine, if I had X on my system...
Ra_ppm and even ra_t16 converted unifinished renderings with succes in earlier days. These days I get an error.
Did you use "ra_ppm file.pic > file.pnm" on a recent distribution?

Hi Iebele,

Just pipe pfilt -2 into ra_whatever and do it that way. Pfilt is the only program officially designed to accept incomplete Radiance renderings. Everything else will generate an error.

ra_ppm returns an error, but I still get a full-resolution, albeit partially black, image using ra_ppm from "rpict -version" -> "RADIANCE 4.0a".
