Greg, do I grasp correctly that Radiance's RGB primaries were chosen to approximate CRT primaries?

Originally, yes. They were selected based on the recommendations of Gary Meyer in an old report where he measured the chromaticities of a bunch of different CRT monitors. Since then, the sRGB standard came out with slightly different RGB primaries, unfortunately.
