Hi All!
I am currently using Radiance (PC based) for analysing the use of 'light
pipes' in deep plan buildings. A light pipe is a highly specular reflective
surface (97%+) which redirects light from the zenithal sky into a room.
Unfortunately the simulation breaks down because of the
'backward-ray-tracing' nature of the PC Radiance suite of software I am
using.
Yup.
I have now installed Linux on my PC and am installing Radiance on it. Is it
possible to get a patch that allows Forward ray tracing (100 reflections or
more) for use with the light pipe?
Yup! You'll want to run, don't walk, to this website:
http://www.ise.fhg.de/alt-aber-aktiv/radiance/photon-map/
AFAIK, this is no longer being actively developed, but the program's author does lurk the hallowed halls of this mailing list.

Thanks for the plug, Rob! :^)
Yep, someone finally hit the nail on the head there. Lightpipes are a showcase application for forward raytracing, as you'll see on the webpage. Check out the lightpipe scene in the egg samples; that should get you started. Lemme know how the addon works for you.
See ya!
