Material properties measurement

Dear Gurus,

I am working in a company that sells and manufactures Shading Devices and
some other things. I will probably have to measure and make a library of
materials and products.

We have a Spectrophotometer that returns CIELab color... and also a Gloss
meter. Is it possible to use those two devices to get materials?

Is there any .cal file that converts from CIELab to Radiance RGB? is GLoss
a way of cuantifying real "Radiance specularity"?

Also curious to hear if/how folks have used a gloss meter for specular measurements...

Any idea if the X, Y and Z options there are, actually, the L, *a, *b?

Still courious about the gloss... I read, somewhere I havent been able to
find again, that they did not really work.

Hi German,

the colour picker can be a little flaky in browsers other than Firefox. It sounds as if the selector (XYZ/xyY/CMYK/Lab) is not working for you? Please be aware that the Lab conversion only has an amber traffic light, which means it kind of works, but might not 100% reliable, or hasn't been tested very thoroughly.

This page allows you to launch the CP in a smaller pop-up window, which I think looks nicer:
