Blinds

Hey everyone,

I'm brand new to Radiance, and I'm using DAYSim with Google Sketchup.

My first question is simple: does the model always assume that there are
blinds installed in the building? Is there a way to tell the program that
there are no blinds? How can I compare a model with blinds to a model
without?

Thanks,
-Taylor Sharpe

Dear Taylor,

In Daysim under the Building Tab you select under Shading Device either
'static shading device (included in geometry)' or your pick one of the
two dynamic blind option. The first case is equivalent to 'no blinds'.

Hmmm getting curious now - how is the dynamic blinds model implemented? Is it adding geometry or is it modifying the transmissivity?

Lars

There are currently two blind models in Daysim:

Simple (quick and dirty): Just assumes that when the blinds are down
they are down for all openings in a building and block all direct
sunlight and 75% of diffuse daylight.

Advanced (takes time to calculate): The user has to provide one or more
additional Radiance files with an explicit blind model (individual
slats) in it. Two or more sets of daylight coefficients are then being
explicitly calculated with the base scene geometry plus the various
blind settings.
